NUST PG Admission Fall 2026 | Complete Guide & Step-by-Step Apply
If you have been thinking about pursuing a Master’s degree and wondering whether NUST is the right choice — this guide will answer every question you have. From eligibility and test scores to deadlines and application steps, everything you need to know is right here.

Why NUST? The Real Answer

Before diving into the admission process, it is worth understanding what makes NUST different from every other university in Pakistan.

NUST (National University of Sciences and Technology), located in Islamabad’s H-12 sector, is not just Pakistan’s top-ranked engineering university — it is now ranked in 21 subjects globally by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, the highest number achieved by any Pakistani university. In Computer Science alone, NUST jumped 50 positions globally, rising from 166th to 114th in a single year. In Engineering and Technology, it holds the number one position in Pakistan.

What does this mean for you as a student? It means your degree carries weight. Pakistani and international employers recognize a NUST postgraduate degree as a mark of genuine academic rigour. You will be studying at the same institution ranked #371 globally and #2 in Pakistan in the QS World University Rankings 2026.

Beyond rankings, NUST sits at the crossroads of government, industry, and entrepreneurship. Its H-12 campus in Islamabad gives students direct access to policymakers, industry leaders, and change-makers a network that simply does not exist at most other universities in Pakistan.

  • Natural Sciences
  • Applied Biosciences and Biotechnology

Whether you want to specialize in Artificial Intelligence, Environmental Engineering, MBA, Data Science, or Biotechnology — NUST has a program for you. This variety is one of its strongest advantages over more specialized institutions.

Are You Eligible? Check This First

The basic eligibility requirement for NUST Masters admission is straightforward: you need 16 years of schooling or a 4-year Bachelor’s degree from an HEC/PEC recognized institution, in a field relevant to your chosen Master’s program.

In simpler terms — if you hold a BS, BE, or equivalent 4-year degree from a recognized Pakistani university, you are academically eligible to apply.

The Test Score Requirement — Which Test Do You Need?

This is where most students get confused. NUST accepts multiple aptitude tests for Masters admission. You do not need to appear in all of them — just one valid score is enough.

Options Test Details & Requirement
01 Option 1: GAT General (by NTS) Conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS). Your score must be at least 50, and the test must have been taken between June 1, 2024 and June 30, 2026.
02 Option 2: GNET — Graduate NUST Entry Test (by NUST) Conducted directly by NUST. Minimum score required is 50. Valid from June 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026. GNET Series III registration opens April 26, 2026 at gnet.nust.edu.pk.
03 Option 3: HAT — Higher Education Aptitude Test (by HEC) Conducted by the Higher Education Commission. Minimum score of 50 required. Valid from June 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026. Note: Only the HAT test taken for MS admission purposes is accepted. The HAT taken for scholarship purposes will not be counted.
04 Option 4: GRE General (International) If you have an international GRE score from ETS USA, it is valid for a longer window — from June 1, 2021 to June 30, 2026 (5-year validity). Minimum scores required: Verbal 146/170, Quantitative 151/170, Analytical Writing 3.5/6.0.
05 Option 5: GMAT GMAT scores from GMAC USA are also acceptable, with a minimum 50th percentile score. This is typically relevant for MBA and business management programs.

Bottom line: If you already have a valid GAT, GNET, HAT, or GRE score within the valid dates — you are good to apply right now.

What If You Do Not Have a Test Score Yet?

Do not panic. NUST has made this manageable.

GNET Series III registration opens on April 26, 2026 and closes June 8, 2026. You can register separately at gnet.nust.edu.pk. This means even if you do not have a current test score, you have a path forward — just make sure your score is ready before the commencement of your first semester in September 2026.

For GAT General, you can register on the NTS website at nts.org.pk. Tests are held multiple times a year, so check the NTS schedule to find the nearest available date.
